The politics of convenience

Every convenient interface moves work somewhere else.Explore Contributor

Every convenient interface moves work somewhere else.

The question is whether that movement is visible and whether the people doing the work get a say in its design.

A faster screen, a slower street

Every convenient tap has another side. A delivery window needs somebody to wait, sort, carry and absorb a changed schedule. The interface can make that work harder to see, even as it makes a promise feel simple.

Better convenience does not mean abandoning speed. It means being honest about where the time goes and giving the people behind the service a say in what is optimized.
